1)  Patient should be sitting up , preferably in a chair

2) Choose 2 or 3 shade tabs that closely match teeth

3) Hold tabs incisal edge to incisal edge of teeth

4) Keep shade tabs in the same plane and angle as teeth you are matching

5) The camera lens should be pointing down at about  a 45 degree angle

It is important to make sure your camera and flash are on the correct settings. Over exposed or under exposed photos are difficult to decipher proper colors from. 
It is also important  to keep all teeth hydrated, teeth that are not well hydrated will not photograph colors correctly.
